1997 New England 1000 mile automobile rally.

College roommate Frank Filangeri and I were able to finish 1st in class and tie for 1st overall in the 1997 event (with 2 points to the 1953 MG-TD team driven by Peter Efros and navigated by his wife Karen). Same non-zero scores (1 point) on the same 2 checkpoints for a total of 2 points each!

We finished 1st in class and 2nd overall in the speed events to the 1972 Porsche Carrera RS driven by Henry Michie and navigated by Rich Chapel. Speed events consisted of hillclimbs (such as Mt. Equinox) and auto-slaloms

As in 1996,I navigated for Frank in his wonderful 1962 Jaguar XKE convertible. Unfortunately, this year's weather allowed for only limited top down driving.

The event is open to sports, racing or GT cars built prior to January 1, 1973. The 1997 event was confined to the state of Vermont, the 1996 course having covered scenic roads from Lake Champlain in Vermont to the coast of Maine and back again.

The 1998 event will start and end at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport Maine with overnight stays at the Samoset Resort, Sugarloaf/USA and The Balsams in Dixville Notch, staying in Maine and New Hampshire. Hillclimbs will include Mt. Washington and Mt. Battie plus a Thunder Road-style mini-road course at Oxford Speedway and some traditional English time trials.
