Tires and Wheels
Right Rear wheel and tire, after the new
u-joint (at the Portland VTR) and straight axle wheel flange replacement to
remedy the wheel wobble that became apparent after the u-joint was replaced.
Tires are 185/70x13 Michelin X Metrics, installed over the 1998-1999 winter (I
can get something accomplished over the winter).
Wheels are BWA (Italian) honeycomb aluminum
wheels, 5.5" wide JJ offset or backspacing or whatever JJ stands for...
circa 1978. I don't know where or if
they are still available. I bought them
thru a supplier on
Until I installed these tires I had Goodyear
Wingfoot tires, circa 1978 on these same wheels. They were 205/60x13 and didn't
rub at all. HOWEVER… it seems that today's tires have a different size
specification than they did back then. I notice that these 185/70's have a much
larger circumference than the 205/60's. Technically, they should be very close.
Be careful if you want to try these larger tires.
