Dad and his Stag on the way to winter storage in November of 1989. I think this was the last time he drove/saw the car prior to his death Dec 21, 1989.

More recent shots (barely).

Dad's legacy is his August 1971 build Stag. Above photos were taken during the installation of a rebuilt rack and pinion unit in August of 1991. The rebuild work was done by Atlantic Enterprises, Little River SC, 800-654-7565 $250 + exchange.  For instance, see the November 1999 page 8682 Hemmings small display ad in the Jaguar section.  They advertise there regularly. They'll rebuild any steering rack you can send them. I'm warned that inserting the splined areas thru the new seals is easy and ruins a rebuild if you're not careful.  I like to leave those things to the experts.  Replacing the steering rack is a major pain, primarily in getting the power steering hoses threaded back up!

The car is still pretty much as seen here, the rack is in and working fine, but now the front struts are out and awaiting re-installation (for the last 6 years). I also have a Double-S stainless exhaust system to install and a new set of 6" tubeless chrome wire wheels with stainless spokes awaiting new tires, but I'm not getting to these until I get the front end back together and the car on the road!  Year 2000?  We'll see...  I'm enjoying the Spitfire right now..

I hope to find better pictures someday!!  The Detroit Iron '79 Camaro Z28 in the background. It leaks more oil than any British car I've ever met!
